Lowell W. Crane "Cranie"

Lowell W. Crane “Cranie” 90, life-long Veedersburg resident, died 9:45pm Monday February 13, 2012 at the Waters of Covington. He was born February 22, 1921 in Veedersburg the son of Ferd W. and Carrie L. (Wilbur) Crane. He married Julia Dean Songer November 20, 1941 at his parent’s home in Veedersburg. Surviving family include his wife, Deane Crane, Veedersburg; two sons, Mike (Claudia) Crane, Bloomfield, IN; and Pat (Linda) Crane, Plainfield, IN; four grandchildren, Jesse (Tracy) Crane, Zachary (Julia) Crane, Julia (Lee) Hoagland, Michelle (Doug) Hubner; and eight great-grandchildren. Cranie graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1939, and served his country in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater assigned to a Tank Battalion. He was a meat-cutter and operated a grocery store in Sterling at one time, and was a Veedersburg mail carrier for 33 years both in town and rural route. He was member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Post #288, F. & A.M. Lodge #491 (50 year member), Lions Club, Little League all in Veedersburg and past president of many of these organizations; a member of the Scottish Rite in Terre Haute, and the Low 12 Club near Wallace. He was an avid golfer who had accomplished 3 witnessed holes in one after the age of 70, an avid fan of I.U. Basketball, and St Louis Cardinals Baseball. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday February 17, 2012 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 8 pm Thursday February 16, 2012 at the funeral home, with Masonic Service to begin at 7:45 pm Thursday. Interment at Rockfield Cemetery with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #288. Memorial contributions may be given to First Christian Church in Veedersburg.
