Wanda Ruth (Songer) Hering Kester, 85, of Veedersburg, died 7:50 AM Wednesday March 14, 2012 at The Waters of Covington.
Wanda was born January 27, 1927 in Veedersburg, Indiana the daughter of Glenn and Elsie Mae (Clawson) Songer. She was first married to John Calvin “Jack” Hering and he preceded her in death in 1972, she married Robert W. Kester September 1, 1979, he preceded her in death in 2010.
She is also preceded in death by a daughter Pamela Hering in 1985.
Surviving family include a son John (Paula) Hering, Veedersburg; a sister Julia Deane Crane, Veedersburg; brother, Harold Gene “Sparky” Songer, Danville, IL; two step-sons, John (Carol) Kester, Cincinatti, OH; Tom (Yong hui) Kester, Martinez, GA; three grandchildren, Josh (Gina) Hering, Jessica Remter (Mark Dice), Trisha (John) LaGue, step grandchildren Tobi (Lisa) Kerns, five step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Wanda graduated from Veedersburg High School in 1945. She was employed as a beautician for over thirty years, and was co-owner of Hering Oil Co. along with her first husband Jack. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star, all in Veedersburg. She enjoyed music and dancing in her younger years, always enjoyed being around people and visiting with her family and many friends.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday March 17, 2012 at United Methodist Church in Veedersburg with Pastor Matt Swisher officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm Friday March 16, 2012 at Dickerson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Bonebrake Cemetery in Veedersburg.
