Grace E. Cates, 83, of rural Veedersburg, passed away at her residence with her family by her side 10:08 pm Friday June 22, 2012. She was born February 27, 1929 in Wallace, Indiana the daughter of Nelson D. and Bessie (Lowrey) Bowman. She married Millard Cates May 23, 1944 in Crawfordsville, IN. Surviving family include her husband Millard Cates, Veedersburg; a daughter, Judy (Hardy) Keeling, Veedersburg; a son Steve (Deb) Cates, Veedersburg; a sister Helen (Keith) Krout, Veedersburg; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several step great and great-great grandchildren. Grace is preceded in death by two brothers Denny Bowman, Nelson Bowman Jr., and a grandson Raymond Cates. Her memberships include the Veedersburg Church of the Nazarene, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was very active in her church’s ministries as Sunday School teacher, in the Missionary Society, in the music ministry, and loved the opportunity to sing God’s praises. She enjoyed traveling and camping with Millard and their family through the years, with the Minnesota fishing trips being one of their favorite destinations. Her family and home were two very important and cherished aspects of her life. She was employed at General Motors in Danville IL, retiring in 1987. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday June 26, 2012 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Tom Hunter and Pastor Edwin Retter officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday June 25, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
