Velmar E Howard

Velmar E. Howard, 82, of rural Veedersburg, went to be with our Lord at 2:00 PM Thursday February 21, 2013 at Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born August 19, 1930 in Veedersburg, IN, the son of Walter C. and Mamie Catherine Howard. Velmar married Sylvia Johnson June 12, 1959 in Troy, Ohio. Surviving family include his wife, Sylvia Howard, Veedersburg; two sons, Rick Lee Howard, Kentucky; and Todd Lavon Howard, Minnesota; a daughter, Trina Jo (Paul) Collins, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Ron (Carolyn) Howard, Covington; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon Howard, Orris Howard, and Othel Howard; two sisters, Ura Brett and Emogene Kinney. Velmar graduated from Covington High School in 1948, and graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. He served his country in the US Navy. Velmar was employed as an Electrical Engineer for Delco in Dayton Ohio for 4 years, and 26 years for Hurleton in Danville, Illinois. He enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge & euchre, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Covington. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Saturday February 23, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Covington with Pastor Tom Hunter and Andy Martin officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday at the church and continue until the time of service. Burial at Mt Hope cemetery in Covington with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #288. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial contributions be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangement entrusted to Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg.
