David Lee Barnett

David Lee Barnett, 74, of Veedersburg, passed away 4:55 pm (CDT) Friday May 31, 2013 at VA Illiana Health Care in Danville, IL. David was born April 27, 1939 in Morroco IN the son of Dorothy (Geller) Klassen. He married Glenda Jean Lucas August 13, 1960 at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Lafayette IN. She preceded him in death January 1, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his Mother and a special Aunt and Uncle, Jim & Margaret Geller. Surviving family include a son, Gary Barnett, Veedersburg; two daughters, Cheryl Turner, Danville IL and Terry (Jeff) Cooper, Veedersburg; brother, James (Betty) Klassen, Auburndale, FL; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Turner, Lacey (Aaron) Fessler, Lucas Cooper, Levi (Courtney) Cooper, Emily (Scott) Jaspersen, Joshua Barnett, Ella Elizabeth Barnett; and five great-grandchildren, Morgan Mae Jaspersen, Jordan James Jaspersen, Macy Jaspersen, Hayleigh Elizabeth Fessler, and Hayden Mikle Fessler. David graduated High School in Morroco IN 1957, and then served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed for 39 years as a Railroad Engineer originally for Monon in Lafayette, and later for CSX in Danville IL, retiring in 2004; and was employed as a Fountain County Reserve Sherriff’s Deputy for over 15 years. He attended St Xavier Catholic Church in Attica and was a member of American Legion Post #288 in Veedersburg, VFW in Kingman, Masonic Lodge in Yeddo, lifetime member of the NRA, and the North American Hunting Club. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, antique car shows, riding his Gold Wing Motorcycle, driving in the local dirt track races, and was very active with the local Shop with a Cop program. Funeral service is 11:00 am (EDT) Tuesday June 4, 2013 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Visitation is 4:00 – 8:00 pm (EDT) Monday June 3, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #288. Memorial contributions may be given to Fountain County Shop with a Cop.
