George Arvil Barker

August 3, 1938 — December 25, 2013

George Arvil Barker, 75, of rural Kingman, passed away 7:01 AM Wednesday December 25, 2013 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born August 3, 1938 near Yeddo, Indiana the son of Wayne R. and Sylvia B. (Duncan) Barker. He married Sharon S. Keller May 20, 1962 at the Baptist Church in Covington, Indiana. Surviving family include his wife Sharon Barker, Kingman; one son, Jim (Kathleen) Smith, Normal IL; two daughters, Sherri Barker (Eric Crowder), Covington; Nikki Aldrich, Covington; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alan J. Barker and Dale E. Barker. George attended Rabb School and graduated from Perrysville High School in 1957. He was employed at Danville Metal Stamping in Danville IL for 33 years, retiring in 2001. George was known to always have a good time. He liked to joke and kid with his many friends, and loved to tell stories about the old days and the years he spent at Rabb School. He enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting. More than anything he loved and enjoyed his family, and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday December 28, 2013 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Friday December 27, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society and Indiana Blood Bank. Online condolences may be left at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
