C. Marie (Lawson) Haas

C. Marie (Lawson) Haas, 88, of Veedersburg, passed away 10:20 pm Thursday January 8, 2015 at Presence United Samaritan Medical Center in Danville IL. She was born April 13, 1926 in Covington IN the daughter of James G. and Hazel Pearl (Brewer) Bowers. Marie married Alva H. Lawson March 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death December 15, 1968; her second marriage was to Lorin W. Haas February 17, 1993 and he has also preceded her in death. Marie is also preceded in death by a son, Harold “Buddy” Lawson, February 1, 2003; two sisters, Sally Royal, Margaret Puckett; and a brother Carl Bowers. Surviving family include a daughter, Judy (Bob) Dodson, Veedersburg; a son Bob Lawson, Veedersburg; a sister Blanche Wilkey, Veedersburg; three step-sons, Chris (Jenny) Haas, Lorin (Marilyn) Haas, Tony Haas; a step-daughter, Dawn Davis; six grandchildren, Belinda (Mike) Marshall, Brad (Tomi) Dodson, Trevor (Abby) Lawson, Tyler Lawson, Jacinda (Rodney) Smith, Travis Ray; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor Marshall, Shelby Marshall, Finley Lawson, Halle Smith, Eli Smith, Noah Dodson, Aiden Dodson, Zane Ray; and several nieces and nephews. Marie had attended school in Covington and was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington, and had more recently been attending Sterling Christian Church. She was a sports fan and enjoyed IU Basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball. She also enjoyed working in the yard and garden, and was well known for baking homemade pies. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday January 12, 2015 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating, with burial at Mt Hope Cemetery. Visitation will begin 11:00 am Monday and continue until the time of service at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial contributions be given to Community Action in Covington.
