Hester Jean Newnum, 87, of Veedersburg, passed away 2:00 am Friday April 3, 2015 at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville IL. Mrs. Newnum was born April 5, 1927 in Cayuga IN the daughter of James F. and Ruby M. (Ottinger) Murdock. She married George Edward Newnum March 19, 1944 in Perrysville IN; he preceded her in death January 3, 1984. She is also preceded in death by a grandson Dario Baker; seven sisters, Jessie Dove, Maggie Dean, Edna Hoover, Ruth Sherman, Esther Close, Helen Murdock, Violet Rollins; and two brothers, Leonard Murdock & Raymond Murdock. Surviving family include two daughters, Vivian (Orville) Brook, Athens, AL; Nancy (Robert) Baker, Veedersburg; two sons, Roger (Judi) Newnum, Murfreesboro, TN; David (Carol) Newnum, Cumberland Furnace, TN; two sisters, Mary Leiter, Goshen IN; Betty Pierson, Cayuga IN; three grandchildren; Belinda Brook, Athens AL; Keith Brook, Bloomington IN; Justin (Anna) Newnum, Villa Hills KY; a granddaughter in law, Anna Baker, Advance IN; and two great-grandchildren, Meagan Baker and Dustin Jean. Hester enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and tending to her flowers. Most of all she loved and enjoyed her family. She was employed for several years as a cook primarily at the Turkey Run Inn, and also other area kitchens. Funeral service will be 2:30 pm Monday April 6, 2015 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor James Furr officiating. Visitation will be Monday April 6 10:00am – 2:00 pm at the funeral home Burial will follow service at Centennial Cemetery near Kingman IN.
