L. “Deon” Hanners, age 75 of Boswell, IN finished his race and won his battle with cancer at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at his residence. Deon was the oldest of 7 children born to Hurshel and Ethel Hanners on August 10, 1939 in Randall, MO. He was a devoted husband to his wife Beatrice “Joy” (Doerner) Hanners and loving dad to his children, Lynn Yates (Bruce), Anne Schall (Scott) and Ken Hannes (Sheri). Deon’s delight was in his grandchildren, Royal, Ethan, and Alicia Yates, Steven and Amanda Schall, Amanda Adams, Laura Lebda (Bobby) and Austin Ferris. He was a proud papa to his great-grandchildren, Kennadie & Logan Adams and Malia and Mason Lebda. Deon was also a big brother to Chuck Hanners (Kathy), Dan Hanners (Doreen), Rosie McHugh (Gene), Dave Hanners (Donna), John Hanners (Donna), and Dale Hanners (Laura). He was also an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He served His Lord as a faithful servant and was a member of Covington Church of the Nazarene, where he was the much loved “candy” man. Deon was preceded to Heaven by his parents, daughter-in-law, Sheri Hanners, and great-grandson, Logan Adams. Visitation will be on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. EDT at the Covington Church of the Nazarene. On Saturday, May 9, 2015 a visitation will be held at the Mackey Church of the Nazarene in Mackey, IN from 1:00 p.m. CDT until service time at 3:00 p.m. CDT with Pastor Rich Stadler and Jeff Woolwine officiating. He will be laid to rest at Townsley Cemetery in Mackey, IN following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Covington Church of the Nazarene.
