Dorothy D Halladay

DOROTHY D. (GRAMMY) HALLADAY Dorothy Dalene (Jones) Halladay passed away peacefully at 2:55 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at University Place Health Center in West Lafayette, IN with her son Dan and daughter-in-law Karen at her side. Dorothy was born on October 24, 1920 near Hastings in rural Barry County, Michigan to Guy and Leila (Risbridger) Jones. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1938. While working in Battle Creek, she met Jarvis N. (Judd) Halladay from Cassopolis, MI and married him on May 25, 1944 upon his return from the Pacific in WW II. He passed away on April 8, 1984, just short of their 40th anniversary. Both parents and two older brothers, Robert and Neil, preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by the son they adopted in January of 1955, Danny Guy Halladay (Karen) of Lafayette, IN; and three grandchildren, Brian (Meagan) of Omaha, Nebraska; Matthew (Sarah) of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; and Suzanne (significant other, Daniel Dixon) of Mechanicsville, Virginia. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; Bella and Ethan Halladay of Omaha; Andrew, Isaiah, and Jonas Halladay of Abu Dhabi. She was so blessed to have had her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her life. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake, and did all kinds of sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and needlepoint. She was a member of the Veedersburg Sterling Christian Church, the Sterling Ladies Aid, and the Veedersburg Hub Club. Grammy was an inspiration to all who met her because of her positive attitude, making many friends in both Michigan and Indiana. Memorial service will be 4:00 pm Monday July 6, 2015 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Monday and continue until the time of service. Burial with graveside service will be 11:00 am Tuesday July 7, 2015 at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Cassopolis, Michigan.
