Robert "Bob" Allen Sams

Robert Allen “Bob” Sams, 65, of rural Covington, passed away 4:23 am Friday December 25, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. Bob was born March 10, 1950 in Peoria, Illinois the son of Hershel Edwin and Jenny Ruth (Smith) Sams. He married Peggy Sue Weese August 27, 1971 in Grape Creek, Illinois. Surviving family include his wife, Peggy Sue Sams, Covington; a brother, Donald (Linda) Sams, Georgetown IL; a sister, Shelley (Scott) Badger, Eugene IN; an aunt, Wilma (Larry) Straughn, Indianapolis IN; several special cousins, nieces & nephews; his chosen son & daughter-in-law, Matt & Leah Keele, Covington; and Bob thoroughly enjoyed being Papaw to his chosen grandchildren, Ridley & Grace Keele. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shawn Allen Sams; three brothers, Hershel Wayne Sams, Ronald Sams, and Keith Sams. Bob graduated from Covington High School in 1968. Before his retirement he had been employed as an Electrician at Esco in Danville IL and as a Glazier for Bacon & Van Buskirk Glass Co. in Danville IL. He attended West Liberty Church of Christ, and was a member of the Local Glazier Union in Indianapolis. Bob will be remembered as a person who could fix or build anything, even if he had to construct a tool in order to make the repair. He enjoyed spending many hours in his garage restoring old cars and mowers, constructing furniture, and working on many other miscellaneous projects. He was also a handyman willing to work on many of his family, friends, and neighbors projects. Family & Friends are invited to a memorial service to be held 11:00 AM (EST) Wednesday December 30, 2015 at West Liberty Church of Christ 2806 W. State Road 32 Covington IN, with Pastor Kevin Wildman officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the West Liberty Church of Christ or Southern Care Hospice.
