Mary Jane Mann

Mary Jane Mann, formerly of Kingman, passed away 8:45 AM CDT, Friday, June 5, 2009 at Burnsides Community Health Center in Marshall, IL. She had been a resident there over two years. She was the only child of Virgil Byron and Zelma Elizabeth (Best) Lindley, born April 3, 1916 at her great grandfather’s house on US 41, near the Fountain/Parke county line. She lived in Millcreek Township nearly her entire life except for a brief time in Swanington, IN at age 11 with an aunt after the death of her mother and in Martinsville, IL near her son before entering the nursing home. She married Earl Ward Mann April 25, 1932; he expired June 4, 1987. They were the parents of Marsha Ann (Lowell) Patterson and Larry Edward Mann, who survive. She is also survived by four grandsons: Michael Patterson of Madison, WI; Todd Patterson of Fairfield, CA; Gregory Patterson of Charlottesville, VA; Tom Grecius of Ohio and three granddaughters Lindy (Tommy) Holzknecht of Plainfield, IN; Kiley (Scott) Megrant of Taylorville, IL and Carol McClure of Winfield, IL. Other survivors are two cousins, Charles R. Weaver of Spokane, WA and Mickey Bumgardner of Indianapolis, and 12 great grandchildren: Lauren, Lindsey, Erica, Katrin, Kelson and Angelica Patterson; Jasper (J. T.) and Levi Holzknecht; Brenna and Ava Megrant and Bryanna and Breandan McClure. Mrs. Mann was very active in church and community affairs in her earlier years. She is currently a member of the Kingman Christian Church but formerly was very involved with the United Brethren then the Kingman Community Church serving in their Missionary Society, Ladies Aide and music groups. She had been a member of the Kingman Eastern Star, Past Matrons and Patrons club, Home Demonstration club, Farm Bureau, Kingman Woman’s Club. Friendship Garden Club, The Birthday Club, Kingman PTA and the Indiana Easter Seals campaign. She was a talented painter and enjoyed flower gardening and playing the organ. She was a farm wife and homemaker but had worked with her husband to found and operate the Kingman Feed Service. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM (EDT) Monday June 8, 2009 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, IN with Pastor Coy Overpeck officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon (EDT) on Monday and continue until the Order of the Eastern Star Service at 1:50 PM. Burial in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Kingman Christian Church will be appreciated.
