Delmar Lee Harrison

October 27, 1940 — November 23, 2016

Delmar Lee Harrison, 76, of rural Kingman, passed away 6:18 PM Wednesday November 23, 2016 at St. Franciscan Health, Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born October 27, 1940 the oldest child of Raymond L. and Ruth E. (Hartman) Harrison. Delmar was born and raised on the family farm southwest of Wallace, IN. He graduated from Wallace High School in 1959, and had started working on local farms at a very early age. In 1963, while working in Attica at Harrison Steel Casting (Retiring August 2002), Uncle Sam called him into service. He proudly served in the US Army infantry, reaching the rank of SP 5 Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 8, 1968. While in the military he married Marietta “Rita” Fogleman November 15, 1964 in the Yeddo Baptist Church. As a teenager Delmar helped build this church along with other family and friends. God blessed Delmar and Rita with two children; Angela Starlene (Tracy) Huston and Kevin Scott (Jodi) Harrison both of rural Kingman; four grandchildren Andrew Huston, Kingman; Mariellen (James) Kimberling, Stone Bluff; Cody Scott and Michaela Lynn Harrison, both of Kingman. Delmar was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great granddaughter in March. Delmar is also survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marietta “Rita” Harrison along with his children, grandchildren; and three brothers, Joe (Beverly) Harrison, Larry (Robin) Harrison, both of Kingman; John Harrison, Crawfordsville; and a sister, Mary Beth (Gary) Crawford, Snow Hill NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a precious granddaughter Nicole Renee Harrison. As a young couple Delmar and Rita spent many dating hours drawing pictures of the home they planned to build on the family farm. The Good Lord blessed them by helping them create the dream of a lifetime. He was an avid woodsman. He always felt at home and closer to God on the farm and in the woods. According to his mother, Delmar cut his first tree (sapling) down at the age of two with a hatchet. He had a love for wood, whether it was cutting his own wood to build their home and all kinds of furniture, or selling wood to others for multiple uses. Delmar was an antique dealer and refinisher. He was known as a kind and gentle person, and always willing to help someone often in a quiet unassuming manner without bringing attention to himself. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday November 27, 2016 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Sunday and continue until the time of service. Burial will follow service at Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
