John Hall Lambert

John Hall Lambert, 79, of Covington, Fountain County, Indiana, passed away at his home 2:05 PM Thursday January 26, 2017. John was born September 21, 1937 in Cherokee, Swain County, North Carolina and was proud of his Native American Heritage as a member of The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He was the son of the late Hugh Nolan Lambert Sr, and Ava (Hall) Lambert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Blaine and Amy Emory, brother-in-law’s Lionel McCall, Dr. Harold Owen, and Dr. David Jones; sister-in-law, Jackie Cabe Lambert; eight brothers and two sisters. John graduated from Brevard High School in Brevard, North Carolina and North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina “Go State.” After graduation he worked as an Engineer for Corning Glass Works, Raleigh, North Carolina. He also worked for Olin Corporation Paper Plant, Pisgah Forest, North Carolina and was transferred to the Covington Cellophane Plant in March of 1978 as Manager of Maintenance and Utilities. He retired with 30 years of service with Olin/Flexel Corporation in 1994. He gave his heart to the Lord when he was 10 years old, and was baptized in the Oconaluftee River. He was a member of the Etowah Baptist Church, Etowah, North Carolina; serving as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. More recently he was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church. John was an avid reader, enjoyed working in his yard, dancing, walking and holding hands with the love of his life. John is survived by his wife of 59 years Lorraine Lambert; they were married December 21, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Brevard, North Carolina. Also surviving are two daughters, Vicky Lee Pontious (Michael) of League City, Texas; Penny Lorraine “Lori” Lathrop (William) of Covington, Indiana; two grandsons, Mitchel Lathrop of Los Angeles, California and Philip Lathrop of Covington, Indiana; two brothers, Richard Lambert (Jency) of Brevard, North Carolina; and Roy Lambert of Cherokee, North Carolina; three sisters, Betty McCall, and Sarah Jones, both of Brevard, North Carolina; Peggy Phipps (Carl) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Monday January 30, 2017 at Covington United Methodist Church 419 Washington Street Covington, Indiana. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday January 31, 2017 at the Covington Methodist Church with Pastor Andrew C. Harkleroad officiating. Burial will follow service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, Indiana. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Care Hospice Services LLC, 6100 N. Keystone Ave, Suite 369, Indianapolis, IN 46220; or Covington Community Foundation PO Box 175 Covington IN 47932; or charity of choice.
