Nina Marie (Ramey) Gray, 92, of Covington, passed away on her 92nd birthday at 7:07 pm Sunday August 16, 2009 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, in Danville, IL. Mrs. Gray was born August 16, 1917 in Perrysville, IN the daughter of Claude A. and Audra (Bodine) Denton. She married James Franklin Ramey July 3, 1936 in Covington. After James’ death in 1957 she married Edward Gray October 10, 1964, and he preceded her in death in 1987. Nina is survived and will be dearly missed by three sons, James Franklin Ramey Jr. (wife Deanna), Veedersburg; Duaine Addison Ramey (wife, Rose Ellen), Covington; and Robert Leroy Ramey (wife, Judith), Fishers, IN; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a sister Dorothy D. Newnum and granddaughter Melanie Watson. Nina had been a resident of Fountain County for most of her life. She was known to many for her talents in looming rugs and quilting, both of which won her numerous ribbons at the county and state fairs. She also played the piano by ear. Nina often shared these talents with others as gifts and by teaching the skills to interested young people. She also shared her heart and home with foster children. Nina graduated from Covington High School in 1935. She was a member of the Veedersburg Friends of the Library and New Century Church where she served as treasurer for a time. Many in the community enjoyed her folksy articles in the Covington Friend and Country Cousin. Nina maintained a lively interest in current events and often contributed her input on various issues. She was known for her wit and sense of humor. While a resident of the Waters of Covington for the past twelve years, she entertained staff, visitors, and fellow residents with amusing stories and jokes. She was a life and charter member of the Fountain County Historical Society, member of the Covington Book Lovers Club, Troy Township Homemakers, and charter member of the Parke County Quilters Club. Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon Wednesday August 19, 2009 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Paul Kent officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 am Wednesday and continue until the time of service. Interment at Mt Hope Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions be made to the fund previously instituted by Nina, “Ramey-Gray Mu Epsilon” at the Covington Community Foundation P.O.Box 175, Covington,IN.
