Hazel Marie Gookins

Hazel Marie Gookins, 85, of Veedersburg, died 11:55 am Friday January 22, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hazel was born November 26, 1924 in Veedersburg the daughter of Pearl L. and Stella W. (Fogleman) Brewer. She was first married to Richard James Head, he preceded her in death and she later married Hardy Gookins who has also preceded her in death. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Gross; two brothers Max Brewer and Loren Brewer; three sisters Maxine Ratcliff, Ethel Duncan, and Gertrude Ellis. Surviving family includes a daughter Margaret (Gary) Zeller, Mellott; a son Charles (Pat) Head, Mellott; a sister Dorothy (Ralph) Kruger, Veedersburg; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the New Century Church, where she loved to serve as song leader. She enjoyed gardening and sharing the many flowers she had grown, sewing, crocheting, and playing cards. Graveside Service will be 2:00 pm Monday January 25, 2010 at Union Christian Church Cemetery west of Newtown with Pastor Joe Dodds officiating. Services entrusted to Dickerson Funeral Home.
