Rex Eugene Anderson

Kingman- Rex Eugene Anderson, age 87 of Kingman, Indiana passed away May 5, 2010 in Highland, Indiana after a short battle with cancer. Rex was born March 26, 1923 in Robinson, Illinois to Clara Anderson-Shears. Rex had two brothers, Roland Shears and Donald Shears. In 1943 Rex joined the Army and served his country in WWII. In 1945 he was on a boat heading for an invasion of Japan when the war ended. On November 16, 1946 Rex married Norma Ruth Meek in Robinson, Illinois. Rex and Norma moved to Hammond, Indiana in 1952 where Rex worked several jobs before taking over the City Service (later Citgo) station at 169th and Southeastern in Hammond. After closing the station Rex was a partner in Jim’s Disposal Service before selling the business to Waste Management, where Rex worked the remainder of his career. Rex retired in 1986 and moved to Lake Holiday Hideaway in Kingman, Indiana. Rex served for 11 years as Cub Master and then Scout Master of Troop 224 where he guided and touched the lives of many youth in the area. One of his accomplishments was taking a group of scouts from the Calumet Council to the 1973 National Jamboree at Moraine State Park, Pennsylvania attended by 44,000 scouts from throughout world. After retirement in 1986 Rex enjoyed making wood crafts, selling them at flea markets and festivals, and meeting and making new friends as a result of his hobby. Rex is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Anderson of Kingman Indiana, sons Charles (Judith) Anderson of Highland, Indiana, Donald Anderson of McNabb, Illinois, Rex (Maria) Anderson of Hammond Indiana, Grandchildren Lisa (Jay) Mendoza, Christopher Anderson, Jennifer Anderson, Tracy Anderson, Michael Anderson, Kristina Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Zachery Anderson, Melanie Anderson, David Anderson, Venessa (Justin) Aloia, Great-grandchildren Christine Anderson and Savanna Aloia. Rex is predeceased by his son John Anderson (1991), his brother Roland Shears (1991) and his mother Clara Shears (2004). Visitation will be at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg on Saturday, May 8th from 10:00 a.m. until funeral service at 12:00 noon with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating.
