Dale Eugene Phelps

Dale Eugene Phelps, 92, of rural Covington, IN  passed away at 8:50 AM Wednesday September 29, 2021 at Carle Hospital in Champaign, Illinois.

Dale was born May 3, 1929 in Easton, Illinois, the son of Lyle and Lila (Athey) Phelps.

Surviving family includes his wife Nadine Phelps, Covington;  a son Michael (Sherry) Phelps, Boswell; two daughters, Tracy (Ray Heck) Sondag, IL; Lila Green, IL; three grandchildren, Makayla Phelps, Jordan Phelps, and Wade Newhalfen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry Phelps, and a son Tim Phelps.

After high school, Dale served his country in the US Navy. Throughout his life, Dale farmed (his most enjoyable occupation), and owned a grocery store in Easton. His most recent employment was with Jaydon, prior to his retirement. He served as volunteer fire chief in Easton, IL and boy scout leader in Covington.

Dale attended West Liberty Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting. He also enjoyed the company of his dogs over the years, and leaves behind his little dog, Buddy. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends.

Visitation will be 11:30 to 12:30 Saturday October 2, 2021 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Graveside service will be 1:00 PM Saturday October 2, 2021 at Snoddy’s Coal Creek Cemetery with Paula Copenhaver officiating.
