Donna Lou
Nicklas
September 30, 1931 – May 3, 2026
Donna Lou Massey Nicklas, age 94, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Covington, Indiana. A lifelong resident of the community she cherished, Donna’s life was marked by dedication to her family, faith, and friends.
Born to Leland and Mary (Young) Massey, Donna was raised with strong family values that she carried throughout her life. She graduated from Covington High School in 1949, a milestone that prefaced the beginning of her lifelong partnership with Verne Freeman Nicklas, whom she married on July 30, 1950. Together, they made their home on the family farm, where Donna embraced the role of loving wife and mother, nurturing their four daughters with warmth and care.
Donna and Verne were integral members of the Osborne Prairie Church and actively engaged within their local community.
Preceding her in death are her cherished parents, Leland and Mary; her devoted husband, Verne; her youngest daughter, Sandy Ingram and her siblings, Carter Massey, Dale Massey, Charlie Massey, Marilee Anderson, and Charline Allen.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Nicklas of Covington; Julie Himelick and her husband Tom of New Mexico; and Sharon Randolph of Orlean, Indiana. Donna’s legacy continues also through her grandsons: Jason Mullendore, Daniel Himelick, David Himelick, and Nicklas Randolph.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the camaraderie and kindness of Donna’s friends at the Covington Senior Center, where she enjoyed gatherings filled with laughter over cards and Mexican Train Dominoes. They also extend their appreciation to the dedicated staff who provided attentive care during her final days.
In respectful remembrance of Donna Lou Nicklas’s life and impact, private family services will be held at a later date. Please consider a memorial contribution to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation (2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306) in her memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, Indiana.
