Florence E Porter

Florence E. Porter, 98, of rural Veedersburg, passed away 11:16PM Thursday May 30, 2019 at Wellbrooke in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Florence was born June 18, 1920 at the home of her parents, Fred W. and Mallie (Martin) DePlanty, east of Rockville, IN. She married Hugh F. Porter August 17, 1945 in Parke County, IN; he preceded her in death February 5, 1996.

She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Matthews, Helen Akers, Eileen Shinn; a brother, Dale DePlanty; and a great-granddaughter, Kelcie Marie Green.

Surviving family include two daughters, Marilyn (Joe) Griffin, Grand Rapids, MI; Martha (Kim) Green, Crawfordsville, IN; five grandchildren, Captain Michael (Abby) Griffin, Monterey, CA; Paul Griffin, Minneapolis, MN; Chris Green, Crestview Hills, KY; Kyle (Jena) Green, Union, KY; Kurtis (Kim) Green, Minneapolis, MN; four great-grandchildren, Xander Green, Siana Green, McKenzie Green, and Kollin Green.

Florence graduated from Rockville High School in 1938, and attended one year of Business College in Terre Haute. She was a member of the Veedersburg United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Wabash Valley Garden Club, the local Home Ec. Club, and Birthday Club.

She found great pleasure in being a homemaker and raising her family on the farm; she also enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, and cooking. She was active in 4-H for many years as a leader and a mom. She served on the organizing committee of the farm women’s seminar in its early years. She remained active in church & community groups throughout her entire life.

Visitation will be 4:00–7:00PM Thursday June 6, 2019 at Dickerson Funeral Home 303 N Main St Veedersburg IN 47987. Funeral service will be 11:00AM Friday June 7 at the funeral home with Pastor David Inskeep officiating. Burial will be at Portland Mills Cemetery near Hollandsburg IN.
