Gary W. Richey, 71, of Brooksville, Florida and formerly of Veedersburg, Indiana, died unexpectedly on October 10, 2026.
The son of Melvin Jr., and Wilma M. Wall Richey, Gary was born on December 21, 1954. He attended Fountain Central High School where he played football. Gary graduated with the class of 1973. He was the manager of Pizza Hut for thirty-years prior to working at DFas in Indianapolis until his retirement. Gary married the former Reva Hawn on May 27, 1973, in Veedersburg, Indiana; they shared thirty-eight years of marriage prior to her death. Gary married his second wife, the former Patricia “Patty” Sorrell Blair, on May 17, 2011, on a beach in Naples, Florida. Gary and Patty moved to Florida in 2019 where they made many friends. Gary was an avid golfer who was out on the course 5 to 6 days a week. It helped that his favorite course, Brookridge Country Club, was in his own back yard. Gary was a NASCAR fan, watching many races with his brothers. When he wasn’t golfing or watching a race, Gary enjoyed traveling and vacationing with Patty. Most recently, they returned home from an Alaskan Cruise just two short weeks prior to his death.
In addition to his wife Patty, Gary is survived by his children and their spouses: Gary II and Kristy Richey, Cory and Ida Richey, Brandon Richey, Brett and Jennifer Richey; stepchildren: Robbie Parker and Tammy Parker; brothers: Denny and Rhonda Richey, Jeff Richey; sister: Linda and Steve Steed; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, and first wife Reva, Gary is preceded in death by his sister: Penny Richey; sister-in-law: Barbara Richey; special aunt: Fern Caruthers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2026, at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, Indiana. Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service.
