George Leonard Gowens

George Leonard Gowens, 80, of Lebanon, IN passed away 4:22 PM Saturday November 4, 2017 at Homewood Healthcare in Lebanon, Indiana.   He was born September 10, 1937 in St Bernice, IN the son of Kenneth Lee and Audrey Mary (Martin) Gowens. He married Laura (Hutchison) Bennett October 19, 2012 in Veedersburg, Indiana.   Surviving family include his wife, Laura Bennett-Gowens, Lebanon, IN; a son Kenneth Leonard (wife, Michelle) Gowens, Mishawaka, IN; a brother, Garland (wife, Carolyn) Gowens, Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Gail Mills, North Carolina; Kathy (husband, Wayne) Craig, Clinton, IN; and several grandchildren.   He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lori Aleta Gowens Mack.   George graduated from St Bernice High School. He was employed for over 60 years as an electrical lineman, the last twenty years prior to his retirement he was employed in Veedersburg, IN.   George liked to talk to people, especially telling them jokes that would make them laugh. He also liked quarter horses and spent many years training the ones that were bred and born on his farm near Cayuga. He enjoyed his work as Electric Superintendent for Veedersburg and took pride in teaching the men who worked for him the skills they needed to be successful.   Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday November 8, 2017 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Wednesday and continue until the time of the service. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery near St Bernice, IN 11:00 AM (EST) Thursday November 9, 2017.
