Helen Lois Freas

Helen Lois Freas, 88, Veedersburg IN, passed away 8:15 AM Sunday December 3, 2017 at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana. Helen was born February 4, 1929 in Newark, Ohio the daughter of Claude Mackey and Helen Mae (Boggs) Huggins. She married Thomas Walter Freas DVM June 11, 1950 in Newark, Ohio; he preceded her in death February 12, 2012. She was also preceded in death by daughter Betsy Hull, May 28, 2017; and  brother, Donald Huggins. Surviving family include a daughter, Claudia (Mike) Crane, Bloomfield, IN; a son, Thomas R. (Muffie) Freas, Dallas TX; a son-in-law, Bruce Hull, West Lafayette IN; six grandchildren, Jesse (Tracy) Crane, Zac (Julia) Crane, Cody (Nell) Freas, Kyle Freas, Abby Hull, Daniel Hull; six great-grandchildren, Esther Crane, Juniper Crane, Karis Crane, Cooper Crane, Ryder Crane, and Mallorie Crane. Helen graduated from Newark High School in 1946, from the Newark Hospital School of Nursing in 1949, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from the College of St Francis in 1984. She was employed for many years as an R.N. at area hospitals and at Southeast Fountain School Corporation. Helen was a member of the First Christian Church in Veedersburg, Fountain County Extension Homemakers, and the Veedersburg Hub Club. She was an avid reader and swimmer. She loved traveling with Tom to various locales and countries. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial Service 11:00 AM Saturday December 9, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Veedersburg IN. with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Private burial service will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery, Veedersburg. The family request no flowers, but prefers memorial contributions be given to Southeast Fountain Community Foundation or The Bag Buddies Program c/o Tulip Church Bloomfield, IN 47424.
