James Lamarr “Jim” Coleman, 92, of Veedersburg,IN, passed away 2:30PM Tuesday June 29, 2021 at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jim was born December 7, 1928 in Waynetown, Indiana the son of Simon Coleman Sr. and Mamie (Simms) Coleman. He married his wife of 66 years Evelyn Ann Russian September 25, 1954 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Westville, Illinois.
Surviving family include his wife Evelyn Ann “Evie” Coleman, Veedersburg; a daughter, Janet Lynne Coleman, Veedersburg; a sister, Sally Meihls, Veedersburg; two grandsons, Jason J Coleman, Shane E. (Natalie) Coleman; and six great-grandchildren, Ella Rae Coleman, Ethan Isaiah Coleman, Araianna Gonzales, Aleisa Gonzales, Lise Maia Coleman, and Henrietta Meissa Coleman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Simon Coleman Jr., Louis Coleman, Harold Coleman; and two sisters, Barbara Clendenen, and Joy Lewellen.
Jim served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, and was awarded three bronze stars as part of Company D, 145th Regiment. He was employed by FI Mitchell construction in his younger years, and prior to his retirement he had worked for many years as a truck driver and bridge inspector for the Fountain County Highway Department.
He enjoyed working in his garden, having coffee with his many friends, and working crossword puzzles. He was a member of the American Legion Post #288 in Veedersburg.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Friday July 2, 2021 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM Friday July 2, 2021 at the funeral home with Father David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow at Rockfield Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army and American Legion Post #288. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
