James R Simpson

James R. Simpson, 85, of Crawfordsville, passed away 3:00 PM Tuesday July 2, 2019 at Franciscan Health in Crawfordsville IN.

James was born April 15, 1934 near Wallace, IN the son of James Albert “Bert” and Lois M. (Starns) Simpson. He married Mildred Lois Dobbs December 5, 1954 in Crawfordsville, IN; she preceded him in death September 25, 2001.

He is also preceded in death by a son, David W. Simpson; and a sister, Jeanette Snyder.

Surviving family include a son James R. (Donna) Simpson, Crawfordsville; two daughters, Joyce A. (Charles) Melvin, Waynetown; Donna S. (Reed) Morrow, Crawfordsville; a sister, Esther Jane Revie, Springfield, MO; a daughter-in-law Brenda Simpson, New Richmond; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.

James graduated from Wallace High School in 1952; he served his country in the US Army and National Guard from 1956 to 1961. He was employed at Mid-State Wire and Steel as a forklift operator for 32 years, retiring from there in 1996.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Crawfordsville. He enjoyed watching country music programs on TV, he loved to play croquet and the card game Rook. His favorite meal would include fried fish, with fried potatoes and green beans, topped off with peach pie for dessert.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM Friday July 5, 2019 at Dickerson Funeral Home 303 N Main St Veedersburg IN. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday July 6, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Tony Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg.
