John C Clarkston

John C. Clarkston, 79, formerly of Cates and rural Hillsboro IN, passed away 11:00 AM Thursday October 5, 2023 at The Waters of Covington. 

John was born December 25, 1943 the son of Lawrence Clarkston & Juanita (Burke) Murray in Lafayette, IN. He married Wanda L. Towell March 30, 1963 in Cates, IN; she preceded him in death August 22, 2021. 

He was also preceded by his parents; a sister, Dixie Sowers; and two brothers, Larry Clarkston and Kenny Clarkston. 

Surviving family include two daughters, Linda (Ron) Walls, Evansville IN; Buffy (Randy) White, Covington IN; a son Ed (Lori) Clarkston, Hillsboro IN; two brothers, Jack (Laura) Clarkston, Kingman, IN; Howard (Shirley) Clarkston, Advance, MO; six grandchildren, Kyle (Brittany) Stanton, Kari (Brandon) McNeely, Cassie (Nathan) Lea, Aaron (Jessica) White, Caden (Emily) Lynn, Abby (Ross) Columbia; and ten great-grandchildren. 

John loved working on cars and was employed most of his life as a mechanic. He was able to repair anything in the garage or the house. Over the years he helped family and friends with lots of projects and made sure to tell stories of how it was done. Along with working in his own garage and operating a small grocery store, he had worked at Swing Wing Inc. near Veedersburg and Custom Farm Service in Cates. 

Visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 PM Monday October 16, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, IN. Funeral will be 2:00 PM Monday October 16, 2023 at Dickerson Funeral Home.
