Nancy Kathryn Johnson, 86, of Veedersburg, IN passed away at her home September 8, 2023. She was born June 2, 1937, in Stewartsville, IN the daughter of Ermal Cale and Lydia Magdalena (Doll) Wilkinson. She graduated from Poseyville Robb Township High School in 1955, and obtained both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Indiana State University. Nancy began as an elementary teacher at Veedersburg Elementary School in 1959, and upon the school system consolidation, continued as a 4th grade teacher at Southeast Fountain Elementary School until her retirement in 2001.
Nancy married Tom Johnson in Poseyville August 23, 1958, and moved to Veedersburg in 1959. After they both began their teaching careers, Nancy and Tom worked side by side to create the home and farm where she had resided until her passing. Together, they enjoyed horseback riding, playing cards, and spending time with their family and dear friends. Nancy also sewed, knitted, and crocheted in her free time. She was a member of the Veedersburg United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the bell choir. Nancy was known for her kindness to others and dedication to her family. As a teacher Mrs. Johnson was fair but firm with very clear expectations. She is the reason that so many of her former students in our community now have legible penmanship.
Nancy is survived by two sons, Brad (Rae-Jean) Johnson, Carmel, IN; David (Robin Curry) Johnson, Veedersburg; grandchildren, Kylee Johnson, West Palm Beach, FL; Jack Johnson, Dallas TX; Rachel (Braxton) Haas, Plainfield, IN; great-grandson, Bennett Haas, and a brother Ermal (Marita) Wilkinson, Gainesville, FL.
