Phyllis Kathleen (Hillman) Jones, age 93, of Avon, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 30, 2025, just one month shy of her 94th birthday.
Born July 30, 1931, Phyllis met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Jones, and they were married in February 1949. Together, they shared over 65 years of love, laughter, and devotion before Chuck’s passing in January 2015.
Phyllis was a woman of many talents and deep faith and she also had quite a sense of humor. She was a dedicated homemaker, an EMT, the trusted bookkeeper for the family business, and a beloved pie baker whose kitchen always smelled of something warm and welcoming. She had a generous heart and a deep commitment to serving others, both in her home and her community.
Her faith in God was unwavering, and she never hesitated to ask those around her, “Do you know the Lord?” In her later years, she often found comfort in her favorite verse, Psalm 118:6 — “I am not afraid.”
Phyllis had a lifelong love of music and delighted in playing the piano and singing wherever she could — from church gatherings to the local dinner theater in Hillsboro, Indiana. Even in her later years, she continued to share her music and joy, regularly entertaining fellow residents and staff at Avon Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she spent the last two years of her life. She was also known for making a funny face now and then and quoting little verses or songs to her friends.
A sincere thank you to all the departments staff at Avon Health and Rehab for caring and loving mom. They all knew and loved her.
Once one met her they always remembered her by her big smile and her kind loving heart. Also a huge thank you to her friends that she made and the families that adopted and loved mom every day.
She is survived by her five children: Dennis (Jean) Jones, Charles (Amy) Jones, Kathryn (Steve) Methe, Steve Jones, and Kelly Chaffin; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, faith, and music lives on through each of them.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg, Indiana, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. and services at 2:00 p.m.
