Ray Gordon (RG) Phillips passed away on July 13, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Lafayette, Indiana to the late R. Gordon and Mary Ellen Leas Phillips on May 6, 1948. He lived with his family in Oxford, Indiana until 1960 when they moved to the family farm in Veedersburg, IN. RG graduated from the first class at Fountain Central High School where he played football, and many other sports. He was a proud Vietnam-era veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. He was truly a forever Marine. He married Laurie Craig in Veedersburg, IN, on March 19, 1977. She survives.
RG was a life member of both the Covington Veterans of Foreign War Post 1348 and Earl Park American Legion Post 455, where he held several offices, including Commander. He was a former member of the 40 & 8 Voiture 755, Earl Park Fall Festival Board, Earl Park Volunteer Fire Department, and the Earl Park Lions Club.
He was a self-employed painter for most of his adult life, doing electrostatic painting for many businesses and organizations where he made many life-long friends.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Kevin Craig (KC) Phillips (Grace); sisters Susie Merrill (John), and Polly Taggart (Doug); a brother, Tom Phillips (Carole Wendler); sister-in-law Lejuana Craig Ragsdale (Rick); nieces Jennifer Norton (Kevin), Whitney Gonitzke (David), Danielle Pearce (Bryan); and nephews David Merrill (Angie), Clayton Phillips-Dorsett, and Craig Summers; and several great nieces and nephews.
