Roger E. Douglas, 66, of Hillsboro IN, passed away Sunday May 12, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, IL.
He was born October 25, 1952 in Williamsport, IN the son of Eugene Kirk and Louise (Rhodenbaugh) Douglas. He married Gretchen J. Uplinger January 26, 1991 in Hillsboro, IN.
Surviving family include his wife, Gretchen J. Douglas, Hillsboro; daughter, Racquel (Matt) Cosby, Waveland IN; sisters, Carol Wolfe (Owen Keeling) Kingman; Brenda (Rick) Jones, Indianapolis; Sandra Zick, Attica; brother, Steven Douglas, Kingman; four step-daughters, Buffy (Rachel) Wilson, Crawfordsville; Page Craft, Cayuga; Donna Faulkner, Danville; Tracy Bell, Indianapolis; step-son, Joe Douglas, Clinton; eleven grandchildren, Carson Cosby, Sydney & Ben Trahan, Brittany Moody (Jon Polinski), Kandrea (Zeb) Britton, Scott (Taylen) Craft Jr., Abel Wilson, Michael (Jeanie) Rogers, Arie Rogers, Tiernan Bell, Landon Douglas; eight great-grandchildren, Lakely, Milynn & Kinsley Craft, Kayleah & Alleigh Britton, Liam McGinnis, Conner & Harper Polinski, plus Baby Britton on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Linda Davis, and three brothers Robert, Clyde & Larry Douglas.
Roger graduated from Fountain Central High School, he served his country in the US Marine Corps stationed in Panama. He was employed at Olin & Flexel near Covington for many years until it’s closure; he was then employed at the State Highway Garage for 15 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #288, the Moose Lodge in Crawfordsville, and Am Vets in Rockville.
Roger loved being outdoors, and he loved to walk through this world; most times going many miles in a day. He had covered all the trails in most every Indiana State Park, a routine day for him at Turkey Run State Park was to walk every trail in a single day. He enjoyed mushrooming, and he loved his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed just setting on his front porch in Hillsboro watching the world go by.
Funeral service will be 12:30PM Friday May 17, 2019 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Helen Thomas officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30AM Friday and continue until the time of service at 12:30 PM. Roger will be laid to rest at the VA National Cemetery in Danville, IL with military honors provided by American Legion Post #288. Memorial contributions to American Legion Post #288.
