Ruth Marie Keerns

Ruth Marie Keerns, 92, formerly of Veedersburg IN, passed away 12:58 AM Wednesday December 14, 2022 at Wellbrooke in Crawfordsville IN.

Ruth was born July 11, 1930 in Kingman IN the daughter of Russell and Ida (McElwee) Helms. She married Delmar Willett in 1945; and Walter Keerns in 1972; Walter preceded her in death in 1984.

Surviving family include four daughters, Linda (Ronnie) Crawford, Evansville, IN; Debra Willett (Jack), Westmoreland, TN; Dee (Jim) Heisel, Clarks Hill, IN; Lori (Stacy) Hightower, Marshall, IN; a son Larry (Joyce) Willett, Portsmouth, VA;  two sisters, Lora “Tootie” Clawson, Veedersburg, IN; Mary Jane Hendrick, Crawfordsville, IN; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a son, Richard Willett; a brother, Eugene Helms; two sisters, Lois Hand, and Beverly Dennis; and a daughter in law, Mary Anne Willett.

Ruth was employed for many years at the VA Medical Center in Danville IL prior to her retirement. Earlier in her life she was employed at the Cardinal Café in Veedersburg. Ruth enjoyed working on various crafts, along with sewing and crocheting; making many clothes and afghans over the years. She also enjoyed getting together with her sisters and playing card games and “marbles” with them.  

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Wellbrooke and Franciscan Hospice for all the love and compassionate care they have provided for Ruth.

Funeral service is 2:00 PM Saturday December 17, 2022 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Tim Lyons officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM Saturday and continue until the time of service at 2:00. Burial is at Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg. Online condolences at www.dickersonfuneralhome.com
