Samuel Lee Reed, 79, passed away at his home in Covington, Indiana, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, farmer, outdoorsman, and man of deep Christian faith, Sam lived a life defined by hard work, humility, and a genuine love for God, family, and the home he built with his own hands.

Aside from time spent with family, Sam found great happiness in God's creation. Whether he was hunting, fishing, tending his farm, or working outdoors, he embraced a life rooted in faith, hard work, and an appreciation for nature. He enjoyed cutting firewood, baling hay from the seat of his tractor, and raising cattle, all of which reflected his strong work ethic and love for the land he called home. Sam cherished the peace and beauty of the outdoors, where he felt closest to God's presence and enjoyed working alongside his close friends, Duane Collins and J.D. Martin.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Christy Ann Reed; his stepdaughter, Lisa Crews Henk; his father and stepmother, George A. and Ruth Reed; his mother and stepfather, Betty Ann and Jerry Lyons; and his two stepbrothers, Oscar and Tip Huntwork.

He is survived by his children, Lee (Suzie) Reed, Teresa (Doug) Barnette, and Crystal Reed; his son-in-law, Neal (Kim) Henk; his grandchildren, McKenzie (Joshua) Blair, Mariah Henk, D.J. Barnette, Lauren Barnette, James Jackson, and Hazel Pretlow; his two great-grandchildren, Galileo and Áine Blair; his sisters, Susan (Rick) Chapin and Geri Ann (Eldon) Wright; and several cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. EDT, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington, Indiana, officiated by Pastor Tom Hunter.
