Obituary

Sondra Sue (Wallace) Evans, 79, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by her loving family on August 11, 2026 after an unexpected illness.

She was born in Danville, IL on November 3, 1946 to the late George and Madeline (Burroughs) Wallace. She graduated from Danville High School in 1964.

She married James Everett Evans on August 17th, 1968 in Danville, IL. He precedes her in death. After staying home to raise her kids for many years, she worked at Purdue University in the Memorial Union and at the First Illinois Credit Union in Danville, IL.

She is survived by her two daughters, Missy Duncan (Mark) of Crawfordsville and Shelly Keeling (Dan Moore) of Westfield; one son, Scott Evans of Noblesville; 2 bonus sons Kevin Taillon of Noblesville and Matt Pitts of Noblesville; four grandchildren, Layne Varner (Quentin) of Veedersburg, Kate Habegger (Jacob) of Whitestown, Seth Keeling (Kendall) of Nashville TN, and Kristian Bear (Erica) of Lafayette; 4 great-grandchildren, Grayson Varner, Gannon Varner, Kinley Bear and Karter Bear. She has 1 surviving sister, Jody Calvin (Tom Stenger) of Danville IL and 4 sister in-laws, Debbie Swingle of Veedersburg, Marilyn Martin (Doug) of Burlington, KY, Marlene Lighty (Greg) of Veedersburg and Judy Haton of Danville, IL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great neighbors whom she cherished, Sam and Marianne Brown. She will also be deeply missed by her loving dog, Maggie, whom she adored tremendously.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, George and Madeline, her husband James (Jim), brother Ronnie Haton, brother in-law Bruce Swingle and son-in-law, whom she missed and loved dearly, Jason Keeling.

Sondra was one of a kind and anyone that came into contact with her loved her. Any chance she had to be with her family she did it and her family will never forget all the wonderful memories from spending time with her. She kept her witty sense of humor till the very end. She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who loved her, especially by her kids and grandkids.

Her family is very thankful for the wonderful care she received from the nursing staff at St. Vincent and at her short stay at Maple Park Village in Westfield. She was very well loved by all the staff at both places and are grateful for all their help in caring for her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026 at Dickerson Funeral Home, between 3:00pm and 6:00pm, with a funeral service at 6:00PM officated by Pastor Timothy Lyons. Burial will follow at Rockfield Cemetery.
