Tommy Lee “Tom” Johnson, 82, of Veedersburg IN, passed away 6:38PM Friday November 23, 2018 at The Waters of Covington. Tom was born August 28, 1936 in Bokoshe, OK the son of Levi Johnson and Mary (Malone) Johnson Shirkey. He married Nancy K. Wilkinson in August 1958. Surviving family include his wife, Nancy K. Johnson, Veedersburg; two sons, Brad (Rae-Jean) Johnson, Carmel; David W. Johnson, Veedersburg; four grandchildren, Kylee Johnson, Austin TX; Jack Johnson, Carmel; Rachel Johnson, Zionsville; and Megan Johnson, Veedersburg. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Johnson. Tom graduated from Griffin High School in 1954; he continued his schooling and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and his Master’s Degree from Indiana State University. He began his teaching career at Veedersburg High School in 1959, upon the school systems consolidation he continued teaching at Fountain Central High School until his retirement in 1992. During his tenure he had taught Biology, Science, and Vocational Agriculture. He was an avid horseman, who not only enjoyed horseback riding but also enjoyed raising Quarter Horses. He was intrigued by the process of breaking a horse to ride, and had spent many hours training both his own horses and those of others. Earlier in his life he had also raised Beagle rabbit hounds and enjoyed raising, training, and hunting with them. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday November 27, 2018 at Dickerson Funeral Home 303 N Main St Veedersburg, IN.
